Setback. The dreaded “I-word”, injury, has visited me. Things were going so well. I had a really great treadmill run on Saturday, July 23, then woke up with a sore hip Sunday morning. At first I thought it was typical soreness, but come next run, the nagging pain was still there, And the next and next. The perils of feeling too good, running too hard, and getting old.

As Axl said, “where do we go”? After no improvement, I chatted with Coach Jen. From symptoms, it sounds like a muscle problem and I had almost the identical thing in the other hip 2 years ago. So I am starting strengthening exercises. Keeping my fingers crossed that the exercises work! I should have been doing those all along. It really is they key to injury prevention, especially as we get older. I will let you know how things go!

On a happier note, I am writing this from my hotel room in Gulf Shores, AL, It is my first trip down to plan for the 2017 Big Beach Marathon & Half Marathon. At Junction 311, we are so excited about this race. We had an awesome time starting it up this year and we are looking forward to a fantastic second year. Our new staff members will help make the second edition bigger and better, Several Triad folks have expressed an interest in going down for the race in January. We are invetigating hiring a charter bus or van. Let me know if you are interested.
