Girls on the Run is a positive youth development program specifically designed for girls in grades 3-8. Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Currently we have over 12 elementary schools across the Triad participating annually. Nationally, there are over 250 Girls on the Run Councils serving over 200,000 girls a year. Our program is truly transformational for the girls, coaches, and volunteers who participate!
Rather than being a competitive running program, our elementary and middle school programs create a positive, structured space for girls to build important life skills such as team building, developing a support system, boundary setting, decision making, and asking for and providing help. Fun physical activities are built into the program and include strength and conditioning appropriate for this age group. The season culminates with the Girls on the Run 5k, which is the celebratory event that underscores the confidence, competence, connection, character, and caring they’ve been developing. In addition, the event gives the girls a tangible sense of goal setting and achievement.
We are so happy to be a part of Junction 311’s Jingle Jog this year for our end of season 5k! Stop by and say hello at our booth on race day. Or, if you are interested in learning more about how you can become involved with Girls on the Run Triad, join us for our Meet Up on December 13th from 5:30pm-7:30pm at Panera Bread in Kernersville.
